Here Is How To Exclude Words from Your Craigslist Search Results
- In the search bar, enter your desired keywords for the search.
- To exclude specific words, use the “-” (minus) symbol followed by the word you want to exclude.
- For example, if you want to search for “apartments” but exclude listings that mention “studio,” you can enter: apartments -studio
- Press Enter or click the search button to perform the search.
Craigslist will now filter out listings that include the excluded word(s) from your search results. Make sure to leave a space between the “-” symbol and the word you want to exclude.
Note that while excluding words can help refine your search, it’s important to use this feature judiciously, as it may exclude relevant results that could be beneficial to your search.
Here are a couple of screenshots to show the difference between normal searches and using the – (minus) modifier to exclude a word(s) from your search. Check out the search box and results.

In the image above, I searched “ford truck”. But let’s say that the first result showing Ford truck hood side panels is not relevant to what I am looking for and I just want to find trucks, not accessories like hoods.
Now check out the results with the – (minus) modifier in the search to remove the hood result:

As you can see in the picture above, adding -hood to the search removed the result.
I hope this helps you figure out how to narrow down and refine your Craigslist searches.
