Get Your Craigslist Item Found in Google’s Search Results

  • by

If you have ever searched Google for a specific product and model number, sometimes you may have noticed that a Craigslist ad for the item was in the top of the search results. Why does that happen?

Well, Google tends to rank websites high in their search results that have a high page rank and have a lot of links pointing back to the website.

Currently, Craigslist.org has a page rank of 7 out of 10. It is extremely difficult for a website to achieve a high page rank, especially a 7, so Google really trusts showing Craigslist posts in their search results.

There are probably a countless amount of links pointing to Craigslist which gives CL the page rank and trust to show their results.

Quick SEO Lesson

So far, I have given a very short and quick lesson on SEO (or Search Engine Optimization).

However, you can use the page rank and trust of Craigslist to help get your item found in the top of Google’s search results.

Keep in mind, this tip will not help if you are trying to sell a common item on Craigslist. This post is intended to help people that are trying to sell older items that may not be commonly searched for on Craigslist.

craigslist model number search

For example, if you are trying to sell an iPod or iPad on CL, your CL post will not show up at the top of Google’s search results.

However, if you list an outdated, discontinued product, or an item with a long or obscure item number in a city that allows 30 day posts, you will have a good chance that the item will show up in Google’s search results (SERPs).

Especially if the searcher includes “craigslist” in their search because of the trust Google has in Craigslist. Make sure you use the brand and model number in the CL title and in the 1st sentence of the ad.

Include Brand Name and Model Number

So, if you are trying to sell an item on Craigslist, be sure to include the brand name with the full item number because your potential buyer might find you on Google rather than a local Craigslist search.
