Craigslist Scammer Emails Phishing Scam

  • by

If you receive an email that is claiming to be from Craigslist telling you that your account is going to expire, do not click the link in the email. It is a scam.

It is a phishing scam to get your email address with your Craigslist account password.

Craigslist Scammer Emails

The email will look something like this:

Subject: Info about your account REF498066

Body of email: Dear youremailaddress@yahoo.com

Please follow the link bellow to avoid account expiration of your craigslist account http://scamscamscam.com/yadayada

Thank you

Craigslist accounts do not expire. I have two old accounts that I have not used in over a year. I can still log in to those accounts and use them if needed. They are just trying to scare you into clicking their fake link and type your email address and password.

I don’t know why they would want your Craigslist account info since you can’t really do anything with it besides post free ads.

Craigslist Account Info

Having someone’s Craigslist account info isn’t the same as having someone’s Paypal account info. (You can’t go on a spending spree or unload a bunch of cash with a Craigslist ghosting account.)

I think they are are just trying to get passwords that people use with their email address to try to hack into other accounts on other websites such as Paypal.

This is why it is good to use different passwords for each website you use just in case you mistakenly fall for a phishing scam.

I hope this post has been helpful and be safe while selling online. If it seems fishy (or phishy!), just delete the email and move on.
